Shoal Reef Sharks

Monad Shoal is an underwater island on the edge of a 200m drop off, and is famous as the only place in the world where thresher sharks can be seen everyday. This place has a cleaning station for pelagic. Giant manta rays are also a common sight year round. The shoal attracts other pelagics such as devil rays and eagle rays.

Monad Shoal is perfect for Nitrox in order to wait for the sharks to appear. This dive sites is suitable only for advanced divers with experience in deep diving and good buoyancy.

The place is often spoiled by legions of divers sitting on the corals, so be prepared to hover for a long time while you wait for the sharks to come.

Really early start and a long boat ride. We anchor in the middle of the ocean and the first imprecation is that is could be extremely deep. It is in tact only around 12m and after a short swim we get to a drop off. We sit down on the bottom and after only 1 min we can see the first thresher shark and before the dive is over we can see another half dozen

The dive starts at 430am and you jump in the water in the dark. But when you are in the water the sun is rising and you actually have very good light and vis. even under 25m. The chance you see a thresher shark is very high. The cleaning station is very important to the the local marine lives, especially to the sharks. You need to have good air consumption and buoyancy so you dont damage the bottom. Depends on the place you decent, there might be a rope at the bottom to prevent divers to "go over". That is for the divers and for the sharks. Please follow the local etiquette and respect the underwater rules. When you are are ready to ascend, the sun is already up and you will enjoy a beautiful morning glow on Malapascau.

I have been dive here! Amazing dive. Start early morning and 90% chance you will see a thresher sharks. Also on this dive site quite possible to see a big mantas ray. Island is small. But you can find there good hotel b good dive centre
