Erg Monika

Reef

Erg Monika is an Off Shore Coral Reef.

Moorings are on the southwest side of the reef although there is not much protection against the waves
here in bad weather.

From the boat jump in and head down to the bottom approx 30m/100ft which is mainly sand with small
coral clumps making ideal hiding places for Moray Eels and Blue Spotted rays. From here head around
the south end where Nudi-branchs can usually be found amongst the coral. On the Eastern side are
beautiful untouched coral gardens with shoals of Sweetlips and Juvenile Barracuda. Look Carefully and
you may see a Turtle catching forty winks in the reef. Depending on your air consumption you can either
continue to the end of reef or cut through a shallow channel bringing you out onto the western side of
the reef to another mooring area. As you head back there is a tall pinnacle just before the boat which is
ideal for a safety stop. Fantastic purple and pink soft corals hang from the reef along with thousands of
small reef fish. The amount of life in this small area is amazing.This is a great Dive Site for Photography,
especially Wide Angel. Water clarity is usually very good giving 20-40metres visability.
