‘The Christ of The Abyss’ – this giant, submerged, bronze statue made of bronze was created in memory of Dario Gonzatti, one of the pioneers of scuba diving who began scuba diving in these waters. The Christo is in the bay of San Fruttuoso where there is an abbey dating backing to 1200.
This abbey can only be reached by sea or a very long walk through the mountains! This monument honours all those who have devoted their lives to the ocean. This is a dive that all divers must see at least once. Each July a pilgrimage of divers from all over the world congregate and float candles on the water above.
