Reef Drift
This site is situated between Isla Carenero and Isla Bastimentos, and is swept by a strong, nutrient-rich oceanic current, as well as medium to strong surge. Its name is a mispronunciation of the name of one of the ships in Columbus' 1502 fleet - she foundered on the reef here, and promptly sank. 500 years having passed, the wooden vessel is long-gone, however, what you will see here is a stunning diversity of marine life, from an incredible macro world to large schools of chub, jack, and if you're lucky, sharks, which feed in this area. A shallower dive, the reef grounds out to flat sand around 16m, and is accessible only during fairly calm seas. Dolphins are often seen (from the dive boat) nearby, surfing the waves.
Conditions: strong current, strong surge, rough entry/exit
