Wreck

“The Wreck” in question is that of an old ferry boat, used to transport cars from the mainland to Isla Colon. It was cleaned and intentionally sunk in 2000 to create an artificial reef for divers. The wreck lies upright in 5-11m of water, above the reef which surrounds Isla Colon’s most southerly point. The wreck has been cleaned of most hazards and presents an easy dive, popular during certification courses on the island. The surrounding reef is not spectacular, but snapper, sergeant major and blue tang school on the wreck regularly, and a large nurse shark is often seen underneath the rear of the ship on night dives. Hogfish, spotted drum, and mangrove jellies are common sightings here. Penetration of the wreck is NOT recommended due to extremely confined spaces and silt accumulation, but do bring a light to peek into the engine room window.

The wreck in Bocas del Toro is a interesting dive. Not the great wreck diving of Florida but fun all the same. Also a lot of coral off the front of the boat to complete your dive after you have looked the wreck over. Dove with La Buga dive shop. Great people to dive with.
