Dive Las Redes

Reef

This site was named by the original explorers of the Akumal reef for the giant commercial fishing net that was found blanketing it. Now, the net has been removed, but the marine life still abounds. Las Redes is known for the abundant marine life, schooling fish, barracudas, stingrays, lobsters and when you’re lucky, turtles.

This was one of my very first ocean dives as a kid - I've only known it by Barracuda reef and didn't learn the correct name until a few years ago. SUPER easy dive - shallow - nice water temp with no current to speak of. TONS of marine life with Grouper, Tangs, Barracuda, Silver Jacks and other school fish. I've seen some turtles here, although not regular enough to make it a certainty. Over the last few years, it seems as though it has a lot more than in the 80's.
