Diving in Puerto del Carmen

Puerto del Carmen is a great place to dive, suitable for all levels of experience, with more than 10 different dive sites to explore.

The best thing is you can dive here all year around. The minimum water temperature is in the month of February, about 18ºC and the maximum temperature is 24ºC in August and September. Visibility ranges from 10 – 35m with weak to mild currents in and around Puerto del Carmen.

One of the most popular places to dive in Puerto del Carmen is Playa Chica (meaning “small beach”) with some of the islands best dive sites like the Cathedral and Blue Hole. North from Playa Chica is Playa Grande with great wall dives, accessible from a boat or shore. These dive sites are Waikiki, Richi's Place, La pared and Setas . South of Playa Chica is great wreck dive site, La Tiñosa just next to the Puerto del Carmen port, is accessible only by boat.

Most of the sites are wall dives with depths ranging from about 18m to 30-35m. Out into the blue is possible to see passing barracudas, amberjack or white trevally. In the wall are some small caves with stingrays and shrimps hiding inside. As the wall is formed by volcanic rock, it has a lot of holes which are great for moray eels.  The rest of the bottom composition is sand where you can find Angelsharks, especially during the winter months. Also here are eagle rays, round stingray, common stingray and if you look really well, you can find sea horses, nudibranches and much more.  If you're very lucky, maybe even a manta ray!
