The Serra da Bodoquena (Bonito) is an exceptionally beautiful region located southwest of Mato Grosso do Sul, on the Pantanal's edge. The incredibly blue waters of the region's rivers and springs, next to beautiful caves and preserved woods and "cerrados" (thickets) make this region unique. Here one can dive in exceptionally transparent waters, among large shoals of fresh-water fish.
In the region there are also several unexplored caves, where you can practice scuba diving in caves. Note that Cave diving is a type of technical diving in which specialized scuba equipment is used to enable the exploration of natural or artificial caves which are at least partially filled with water. It is an extension of the more common sport of caving, but is much more rarely practised because of the skills and equipment required, and because of the high potential risks.
NOTE: a special certificate is needed for scuba diving in these caves, and one must be adequately certified by an agency recognized by IBAMA – Instituto Brasileiro de Administração do Meio Ambiente, a federal organ.
