Dive Fushifaru Kandu

Big Fishes Reef Sharks Drift Wall

This is the channel on the east side of Fushifaru Island, and the whole kandu has been declared a protected marine area.
The main diving point here is Fushifaru Thila, only for experienced divers. It lies at the end of the atoll and is about 150m long and 50m wide. The top is at 10m and the mamum depth around is 16m inside the channel and 30 outside. The top of the thila is a perfect cleaning station with lots of cleaner wrasses, so many fish come here often. During the right season even mantas come here on ocassions. Big schools of fusiliers, black snapper and lots or oriental sweetlips can be found.
At the bottom, on the sand around the thila, stingrays and white tip sharks can be found. Some have seen even leopard sharks here.
As the thila is the main entrance to the channel, currents can be very strong, speccially during north-west monsoon. The best way to do this dive is with ingoing current, but the mantas will come only with outgoing (taking the organic materials outside of the atoll). On the outside, in a very early morning dive, hammerheads have been seen in the past.

Other dive sites in the area are Fushifaru Corner on the outside of the channel with a nice reef drop off and lots of eagle rays and grey reef sharks and lobsters inside the wholes.
The other option is Fushifaru Giri A 300m long reef formation in the inside of the cahnnel with a very rich reef life and nice table corals.

There are many other options to dive the Fushifaru Kandu, but several days can be spent here, waiting for the good current and enjoying the different ways of diving it.
