Will your diving involve cold water? Or warm water only? Let's say cold is under 65 degrees F.

I use all Sherwood exclusively, except for my wet suit which was tailor made in Okinawa.

For $2000, you should be able to get a decent set of gear. Any of the big name brands (Sherwood, Aqualung, Scubapro, Mares) make good regs and BC's in this range. Talk to your local shop. They will usually set up up with a decent discount for a package deal. Many online delaers have good prices as well, but service is quite a bit harder.

ScubaPro makes good stuff. It all comes down to what you'll eventually use everything for. I recommended the Dive Rite Transpac and the Halcyon simply because they can go tech later is all.

Honestly, Dive Rite or Halcyon for a BC. You asked for a good all around rig and either would be in your budget. In their base forms, they make excellent recreational rigs and there's the option of turning them tech later on. Saves you from having to buy another rig if you opt to climb the ladder and they both have excellent resale should you decide to leave the sport. They're also cheaper than OMS for essentially the same thing. As for regs...your choice here. All the manufacturers make decent ones. My reg bags have Sherwood, Mares and Apeks. Use 'em all depending on the dive. Computers...your choice again, but I'd lean towards a Nitek Duo simply because it's a hardy fella, does Nitrox and uses a moderate algorithm with the added bonus that should you go beyond recreational diving later on, you can use this computer for it. Myself, I normally dive a Gemini, but that would eat up 3/4 of your budget. I also use an old Dive Rite B'Air as a backup. If they still make 'em, that would be cheaper than the Nitek but you're limited to air only.
The above is going to all add up to about your budget. You may have to steal someone's fins :)
