Underwater Museum in Cancun
Cancun, Mexican Caribbean
Ambiance
MUSA (Museo Subacuático de Arte) is an underwater museum in the waters surrounding Cancun and Isla Mujeres in Mexico. The project was created by artist Jason deCaires Taylor and consists of 400 permanent life-size sculptures on the ocean floor.
Each of the sculptures is made from materials designed to promote coral life, which lends the artwork a fascinating, ever-changing quality, along with attracting marine life.
The artist describes the work as “forming a timeline of the changes both visually and socially in humans over the past centuries.”
Visitors can view the sculptures by diving, snorkeling or a glass-bottomed boat tour, either from Cancun or Isla Mujeres.
