Buccaneer Diving

Buccaneer Diving was started over twenty years ago in Mombasa by Bruce Phillips . Bruce's love of diving started as a child in 1977 encouraged by his father who was (and in fact still is) a very keen diver and one of the pioneers of diving in East Africa.
Initially Buccaneer Diving was very small and had only two members, Bruce as the Instructor and Ropa (presently our head captain) as the boat captain; it operated from the bottom of Bruce's parents' garden.

Buccaneer Diving has now had the largest certification numbers in Kenya for several years in a row and is already a significant certifier in Zanzibar - Buccaneer's latest venture.
Buccaneer Diving has several dive centres in Kenya and 5 star IDC centre in Paje on the South East coast of Zanzibar.

Diving Bases are located in following areas:

- Diving base at Voyager Hotel

This base is a PADI 5 star IDC Centre. It is one of the largest of the Buccaneer bases, dive excursions leave from this base daily and some of our dive boats are permanently moored here. Voyager houses the main Buccaneer Dive shop, the photographic editing room and equipment.

- Diving base at Sun 'n Sand

This base has all the equipment required to run all PADI courses except the PADI IDC. It also has full time Padi instructors to enable those staying at this hotel to do their diving courses within the Sun'n'Sand premises.

- The Reef Hotel and Mombasa Beach Hotel Booking offices

Buccaneer Diving has booking offices at both of these hotels. Staff will be available to help you organize and make arrangements for your dive trip or course. We do not fully equip these hotels as they are within a five minute walk along the beach from our Voyager Hotel Buccaneer Dive base. Free transport is provided to and back from any of our bases you wish to join a dive trip from or do a course at.

- Diving base at Whitesands Hotel

This was our original centre and Kenya’s first PADI 5 Star IDC centre. This base is still one of our largest, dive excursions leave from this base daily and we have two dive boats permanently moored here. Whitesands is also equipped for all the PADI courses we run including the Padi IDC.

- Lesoleil Booking offices

Buccaneer Diving has a booking offices at this hotel. Staff will be available to help you organize and make arrangements for your dive trip or course. Free transport is provided by us to, and back from, any of our bases you wish to join a dive trip from or do a course at.
